TYPE of POETRY ($_$)

EMO LOVE

NARRATIVE
Definition: 
     A poem that tells a story and has a plot. Narrative poems include epics, ballads, idylls and lays

Example:
There was three kings into the east,
Three kings both great and high,
And they hae sworn a solemn oath
John Barleycorn should die.


                      BALLADS

Definition:
     Are poems that tells a story similar to a folk tale or legend and often has a repeated refrain. A ballad is often about love and often sung.

Example:
Oh the ocean waves may roll,
And the stormy winds may blow,
While we poor sailors go skipping aloft
And the land lubbers lay down below, below, below
And the land lubbers lay down below.



     EPIC
Definition:
     A long narrative poem telling of a hero's deeds

Example:
By the shore of Gitchie Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
At the doorway of his wigwam,
In the pleasant Summer morning,
Hiawatha stood and waited.


LYRIC
Definition:
     Consists of a poem, such as a sonnet or an ode, that expresses the thoughts and feelings of the poet.

Example:
I heard a fly buzz when I died;
The stillness round my form
Was like the stillness in the air
Between the heaves of storm.


SONNETS
Definition:
     English (or Shakespearean) sonnets are lyric poems that are 14 lines long falling into three coordinate quatrains and a concluding couplet. Italian (or Petrarchan) sonnets are divided into two quatrains and a six-line sestet.

Example:
O thou, my lovely boy, who in thy power
Dost hold Time's fickle glass his fickle hour;
Who hast by waning grown, and therein show'st
Thy lovers withering, as thy sweet self grow'st.



ODES
Definition:
     Are long poems which are serious in nature and written to a set structure

Example:
My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:



     ELEGIES
Definition:
     Is a sad and thoughtful poem lamenting the death of a person

Example:

FREE VERSE
Definition:
     Is a form of Poetry composed of either rhymed or unrhymed lines that have no set fixed metrical pattern.

Example:
I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
I loaf and invite my soul,
I lean and loaf at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.


SIGNIFICANE:
     Because not every poem have the same structure, pattern or rhythm. If there only one type of poetry it will make the poem sound the same and make the reader boring. It will be better to have many type of poetry for the reader to able to have more choices and choose the one they like.

Lines (----)

Definition:
     A single line of words in a poem
Example:
     Spring is the season of growth

Significane:
     Because that is how a line of words in poem form and how it form a poem

Symbol (&_&)

Definition:
     The practice of representing things by symbols, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character

Example:
     Natures First green is gold

Significane:
     Because it similar to simile and it help the reader to image how things are compare in the poem

ONOMATOPOEIA (%_%)

Definition:
     Used to describe words that look like the sound they are describing

Example:
     ... the moan of doves in immemorial elms,
     And murmuring of innumerable bees.

Significane:
     Because it helps the reader to easy to guess what the word mean just by reading it. The word can pop into their head and bring the emotion of the word so they can understand how it so effective.

ASSONANCE (*_*)

Definition:
     The use of the same vowel sound with different consonants or the same consonant with different vowels

Example:
     mystery  and mastery

Significane:
     Because it can change the way the reader think about the word in the poem. Make them try to figure the message of that word or the different meaning of it. Even the word sound alike but it has different meaning and it show how the reader can feel interesting in reading it.

ALLITERATION (^_^)

Definition:
     The repetition of the beginning sounds of words

Example:
     the fickle finger of fate

Significane:
     Because it create a special rhythm to the poems and it connect the line together

METER _------

Definition:
      The measured arrangement of words in poetry, as by accentual rhythm, syllabic quantity, or the number of syllables in a line.
Example:
     iambic: u /
     trochaic: / u
     dactylic: / u u
     anapestic: u u /

Significane:
     Because it shape the poetry and make the rhynthm, syllabic quantity, or number of syllables look smooth

ELEGY (#_#)

Definition:
     Is a sad and thoughtful poem lamenting the death of a person.

Example:
     The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
     The lowing herd winds slowly o'er the lea,
     The ploughman homeward plods his weary way,
     And leaves the world to darkness and to me


Significane:
     Because sadness and death is one of the most depress emotional. It can makes people cry and fell the pain as they read it..

COUPLET (%_%)

Definition:
     Is a pair of lines of meter in poetry. It usually consists of two lines that rhyme and have the same meter.

Example:
     Let Babble take you
     on a tour
     of books both classic
     and obscure

Significane:
     Because it creates a shape in a poem and also show the rhyme of the poem 

RHYME (*_*)

Definition:
     Is a repetition of similar sounds in two or more words and is most often used in poetry and songs.

Example:
     Sometimes at night I can still hear them screaming

Significane:
     Rhyme or many ryhme together can form a sound that sound like a song. When the reader read it they can hear the music as they read a long. It make the poem more fluent and more interesting. 

RHYTHM ($_$)

Definition:
     It is similar to tone when the sound move up and down in a pitch tone

Example:
     I HATE THE WORL. But I love You

Significane:
     Every poem contain an emotional and a rhythm. When you can catch the rhyme of the poem you can abble to understand it and feel the emotional message from the poem.

PERSONIFICATION (^_^)

Definition:
     Is an ontological metaphor in which a thing is represented as a person.

Example:
     My diary is like a best friend to me

Significane:
     It help the poem more creative and it creat an imagination for the reader.

SPEAKER (^o^)

Definition:
     A person who speak outloud in a play in front of the audience

Example:
     The main character read outloud on stage: "There is nothing in the world that i can't do just for you."

Significane:
     Because it bring the focus from the audience more to the speaker as he read it out loud. The speaker is the focal point on stage where the audience can get their attention and understand the main idea of what the charater said.

TONE (&_&)

Definition:
     Is the use of pitch in language and poem usually written. 

Example:
     Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of
light into our dark world.

Significane:
     Because it help the reader to catch th rythm of the poem and to understand the emotion the poem try to get to you.

INTERPRETATION (^-^)

Definition:
     The act or result of interpreting; explanation, meaning , translation, exposition, etc.

Example:
     Analyse: I'm feeling like I'm buring (I feel so hot)

Significance:
     Explain and to understand the poem in a clearly way. It help the reader to get more into the point of the poem and what is it about. If the reader doesn't understand anything mean it not really a poem at all.
   

SIMILE (^-^)

Definition:
      A figure of speech that not directly compares two different things by using words "like", "as", or "than".

Example:
     The water is like the sun

Significance:
     Because it help the poem more attractive and easy to imagine or compare to other thing.

EXTENDED METAPHOR (-_-)

Definition:
     Continues the comparison of the metaphor into the rest of the sentence or the sentences that follow.

Example:
     All the inhabit this great earth,
Whatever be their rank or worth,
  Are kindred and allied by birth,
       And made of the same clay.

Significance:
     Because it really common in poem and sometimes people use it to make movie script, lyrics,...etc. As they get meaning of it by extended metaphor it would be easy for the reader to get more idea in metaphor. It can bough them into a higher level in comparation.

METAPHOR (^o^)

Definition:
     Metaphor is when you use two nouns and compare or contrast them to one another

Example:
     The greater part of the untested men appeared quiet and absorbed. They were going to look at the war, the red animal - the blood-swollen god

Significance:
     Becasue it help bring the reader to a higher imaginary where they can compare or contrast thing to thing. When they compare they could understand how something small but its value is big for example You shine like the sun in the sky.

STANZA :) :P

Definition:
     A Stanza consists of two or more lines of poetry that together form one of the divisions of a poem. The stanzas of a poem are usually of the same length and follow the same pattern of meter and rhyme and are used like paragraphs in a story

Example:
     Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light


Significance:
    Cause it can form the shape of the poem into a theme so when the reader read it they can easy follow the rhyme. As they follow the rhyme it can creat a sound or a song in their mind as they read it. It make it more interesting and not turn to boring.
    

IMAGERY :) :P


Definition:
     Imagery involves one or more of your five senses (hearing, taste, touch, smell, sight)


Example:
    My father lies black and hushed
     Beneath white hospital sheets
     He collapsed at work
     His iron left him
     Slow and quiet he sank

Significance:
    It help the reader to feel the poem and make it realistic in their
mind. It also help the person who read it understand the poem more
not only by reading it but also can picture it.

What is POETRY? (*_*)


This is POETRY

Definition:
   Poetry is the way of express feeling though out writing. You can use your imagination and follow the rhythm of the poem while you are reading it. To me it is a kind of art that have the beauty of sound and emotion. 

Example:
   You are the gift from the heaven
The best gift ever
Love you, and love you forever

Significance:
   Always read peotry outloud for you to able to hear and feel the rhythm of the peotry. It can be about feeling or about thing in life. You can able to feel the poem by heart.
